GEMS is in session!
Girls everywhere – you are invited to join us for fun and fellowship as we learn what it means to Get Wisdom, based on Proverbs 9:10, which states “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. Learning to go ‘beyond the gold’, Proverbs 16: 16-17 tells us ”How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life.” Girls grades 1st through 8th grades meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm for pizza ($2 donation) and at 6:30 we have opening song time, prayer and then break off into our own small groups for crafts and bible time ending at 7:30pm.
Some of the GEMS highlights for the year are the annual theme campout/kickoff. Each year this serves as an introduction to the new theme for the year and gets us all fired up for the season. The girls are looking forward to GEMS Theme Night on March 23. Our theme this year, “Get Wisdom”, will focus on “Go Beyond the Gold”, again using the passages in Proverbs. Thanks to our spaghetti dinner (held each year in November) we were able to again help out the Alpha Family Center. 2012′s spaghetti dinner will be held on Friday, November 9, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
The GEMS again provided their annual Alpha Family Christmas Tree project last year, encouraging everyone to bring in diapers and baby wipes as the need for these items was great. The GEMS delivered the items to the center, and they provided diaper bundling and clothing hanging services for them. It is such a blessing to see everyone so touched by this kindness. God has richly blessed us with this opportunity. Thanks so much for supporting the new families in need this past Christmas.
February 17 was ‘child care service night’! As a fundraiser for some GEMS counselors to attend the annual conference this year, we provided a NIGHT WITHOUT THE KIDS here at RSCC. We had games, movie and a snack for a donation. Thank you for your support!
Sunday, April 29, 2012, will be GEMs Sunday. The GEMs girls will usher and greet at the morning service. They will also sing praise and worship songs with the Praise Team as they lead the congregation in praising our Lord with our voices.
Watch for upcoming events.
